Hi Jérôme,

can you build in a verifier/debugger for illegal UOPs?

I think I found a bug within DVD Studio Pro when working with Button Over Video.
If pressed the "Disable All" Button at a chapter Marker, all UOPs become disabled, at PGC- and VOBU-level.
That's very bad, because UOP17 (Button Select/Activate) is not allowed in VOBU.

And I think DSP set some other illegal UOPs, if pressed the "Disable All" Button at a chapter Marker.

On OS X the DVDPlayback-Framework ignores the wrong setting of UOP17 in VOBU.
The DVDPlayback-Framework works correct.
The burned DVD is playing fine on my old Panasonic DVD-RV36.

But some StandAlone-Players or -Recorders (i.e. Panasonic DVD-Recorder DMR-EH56, JVC HV XR-31) read
the wrong setting of UOP17 in VOBU and disabled all Button Select/Activate to the chapter,
while UOP17 in the same track at PGC-level is not set.
You can not Select/Activate a Button over Video.

Thanks
Michael

These flags could be verified each time a VOBU is loaded

Would you like a special menu command to verify all VOBUs. That could be long, maybe the check for only the first VOBU of each cell would be enough and quick.

Hi Jérôme,

yes you are right, I think for a quick-check it's enough to read the first NavPack of each cell for illegal UOPs.
But if there is an error in the first VOBU all NavPacks of the same cell must be verified and corrected.
After this a short information to the user, that myDVDEdit detected and corrected illegal UOPs, is helpfull.

It would be great if you can build in such a function in an upcoming version.

Thanks
Michael

This may not be the right forum for it, but I'd appreciate an explanation somewhere of the concepts invoked in the above messages:

1) What are illegal UOPs?

2) What is the difference between UOPs becoming disabled at PGC- and VOBU-level?

Hi Aaron,

basically, if a UOP is allowed on a higher level (PGC) and forbidden at a lower level (VOBU), it is forbidden for the user. But if a UOP is forbidden at PGC-level and allowed at VOBU-level, it is allowed for the user.

A special case is UOP17 (Button select/activate) and some other UOPs, they are not allowed at VOBU-Level, only at PGC-Level.
An other special case is UOP4 (GoUp PGC), it's only allowed at VOBU-Level.

Have a look at Jim Taylors DVD-Demistyfied - Third Edition, Page 9-31
or http://dvd.sourceforge.net/dvdinfo/uops.html

In DSP you have access to the UOPs at PGC-level if you set the user rights for a track and you have access to the VOBU-level if you set the user rights for a chapter-marker.
But don't use the "Disable All" Button at chapter-markers if you have Button over Video!
All UOPs are now disabled, also UOP17. Even if you uncheck "Button" (UOP17) for the track, UOP17 keeps disabled for the chapter.
And that's what I called illegal UOP.
I found out, only with the "Enable All" Button at the UOPs of a chapter-marker you can unset illegal UOPs.

Some Players read the illegal UOPs and untruly think it's OK.
On remote-control the arrow-buttons and the num-block are now disabled for the track.
The user can't navigate through the Button over video.

Good (re-) authoring apps don't allow to set illegal UOPs, e.g. Scenarist or myDVDEdit.
